Lowndes Co. hopes to reverse trend

November 5, 2002

Valdosta-- Absentee ballots are nearly double the usual, and they're expecting more to arrive in the mail.

Officials at the Board of Elections say the heavy turnout is partly due to the new voting machines. "People are coming out to see the new machines," said Deborah Cox of the Board of Elections. "Turnouts really good."

The state has predicted a 54 percent turnout for Lowndes County.

They only had a 15.4 percent voter turnout in the primary elections.
