Valdosta - Firefighters are still investigating the fire that gutted two downtown Valdosta businesses and damaged another.

They believe the fire started in GQ Men's Fashions on Ashley Street around 10 last night. It then spread to and completely destroyed a vacant building next door. The other store, South Georgia Pawnbrokers, had extensive smoke and water damage.

"We don't know much at this time, but we'll be out here all day investigating until we get to the bottom of it," said Chief John Wisenbaker.

Firefighters say it could be several weeks before they know what caused the fire.
