On December 1, 2006, EchoStar, in response to a court-ordered injunction, cut off its DISH Network customers from access to distant network signals.
On May 24, the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit affirmed the District Court's conclusion that EchoStar engaged in a "willful or repeated" violation of the Satellite Home Viewer Acts.
A federal law requires that customers chose between receiving local channels or distant broadcasts.
This is the first time local TV channels are available by satellite in 19 counties surrounding Albany, providing an alternative to cable.
