More charges for Judge Brooks Blitch

November 20, 2007

Homerville - More misconduct charges filed today against Judge Brooks Blitch, the Chief Judge of the Alapaha Judicial Circuit.

The Judicial Qualifications Commission accuses Blitch of signing blank probation arrest warrants and distributing them to officers throughout his circuit.

He's also accused of violating judicial canon by talking with probation officers about suspects without holding a hearing or notifying the victim and prosecutors.

Earlier this month they cited seven other violations ranging from illegal collection of payments from misdemeanor defendants, to ordering the early release of imprisoned felons.

These charges are not criminal but if they are true, Blitch could be removed from office.

John Sutton, an attorney for the judge, tells us tells us that it appears the Judicial Qualification Commission is intent on forcing a defense on as many flimsy allegations as possible, which are simply not true.
