Clinch County - The Chief Judge of the Alapaha Judicial Circuit is now facing charges from an agency that could remove him from power.

The Judicial Qualifications Commission filed misconduct charges with the Georgia Supreme Court Thursday against Judge Brooks Blitch.

They say he collected illegal payments from misdemeanor defendants to pay several Clinch County employees. The account was kept off the books.

Court records also accuse Blitch of ordering the early release of imprisoned felons without proper victim notification, including a child molester released nearly five years before his sentence expired.

Former state Attorney General Mike Bowers will prosecute the case against the judge. Former Governor Roy Barnes will defend him.
