Firefighters will burn a South Albany home Thursday as part of a training exercise, and they want the community to know about it.

This abandoned home in the 500 block of South Jefferson is slated for demolition.

Firefighters will burn it Thursday morning to give 14 new recruits real fire training.

They'll also videotape inside the burning home for instructional and public service uses.

Firefighters want neighbors to know so if they have respiratory problems, to prepare for the smoke.  Albany Fire Department Chief James Carswell said "With the high sky and the little bit of wind, it should dissipate pretty quickly. But still we would rather them know about it in advance, so they will know what's going on. Obviously there will be some congestion on the street, so stay from the area if you can."

Firefighters cleaned up evidence of vagrants and drug use inside the house in preparation of Thursday's burn.

The training burn will be in the 500 block of South Jefferson Thursday from 9 A-M until around 2 P-M.
