ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A military service dog at MCLB Albany retired Monday and was adopted by her original handler.
Cindy is a five year old Dutch Shepherd trained in patrol and explosive detection. In June, she broke her leg during training, and can no longer work.
Her first handler, Jon Reynolds, who is now stationed in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, adopted her Monday.
He said, "As a dog handler and as your career progresses, you have a lot of dogs that you deal with training wise and handling wise and every now and then you run into one that you bond with. Almost like a mate, you have a chemical reaction with the animal. As you can see, she loves me. We haven't seen each other for about nine months and she still has this attraction towards me so as you can see, it's far more than just a handler/dog relationship. It's a bond and it's going to last for a long long time."
Cindy worked Presidential details twice for President Obama and several details for President Carter. Now, she'll spend her retirement by Reynolds' side.
