ALBANY, GA (WALB) -  The three finalists in the search for Albany City Manager will be named in two weeks.

Albany city commissioners met behind closed doors Monday to discuss how the city manager selection will proceed.

The consultant hired by the commission has whittled the list of 61 applicants to eight. Next week, he is expected to refine that list and present it to the commission. They plan to name three finalists on the 21st.

"I think there are some viable candidates. Some males and females and I think we can be highly selective with what we have," said City Commissioner Tommie Postell.

Right now, background and reference checks are being conducted. A new manager is expected to be named by mid-April.

James Taylor is serving as interim city manager while the search is being conducted and has applied for the position.
