ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A Dougherty County horse owner lost one of his horses when it got loose and stepped into the path of an oncoming car.

Dougherty County Police say an SUV driving down Fleming Road near the marine base struck the horse. It was one of four that got loose from a fenced-in area.

Police say it crossed the road from the north shoulder, about a mile west of County Line Road. The road was temporarily shut down Saturday night. The driver of the SUV was not injured or charged.

We don't know how the horses got loose. Neighbors say they've seen a loose horse in the area for the past several weeks and they've even reported it to law enforcement officials.
