ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Parents, educators and community leaders came together Wednesday to help young people thrive.

Assets Builders of Albany kicked off 40 developmental assets. It's a program by the Search Institute that teaches the framework that young people need to succeed in life.

The goal is to teach 40 people those assets who will teach 40 others and so on in a grassroots effort to help the entire community.  Organizer Sandy Bamford said, "The more assets they have, the more successful they are, the fewer at risk behaviors they have and some want to help life to be better for our community by helping our children and families to be successful."

Asset Builders is a partnership between the Dougherty County Family Literacy Council, United Way of Southwest Georgia, ASU, the city of Albany and Phoebe's Network of Trust.
