ALBANY, GA (WALB) - As many as 85,000 Mediacom internet and 2,500 cable customers were without service for hours Tuesday because of a construction mishap.

When Water, Gas, and Light crews installed a street light near the intersection of Barnsdale and Nottingham yesterday they severed a major fiber line for Mediacom.

WG&L spokeswoman Lorie Farkas tells WALB News 10 they were told by on-site Mediacom workers that the fiber line was on the other side of the street.

That affected internet service for a three state area including large portions of Georgia, Florida, and a small portion of Mississippi. Internet customers had service again by 6:30 p.m. and cable was restored to most by 9:00 p.m. Phone service wasn't interrupted.
