ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Are you having trouble breathing easy these days? You may want to stay inside. Georgia Foresters say February is the most popular month of the year for prescribed burning.

And though burning is good for the environment, it can mean problems for your health. The smoke from these burns linger in the air for a few days and that causes sinus and breathing problems for many of you.

'The smoke is an irritant. It is the same thing as a smoker. If you notice a smoker will have that cough, and it is your lungs defense letting you know something is not right. And it will make you cough," said Tift Regional Director of Respiratory Care, Jackie Laska.

If you suffer from asthma or breathing problems, doctors recommend that you stay indoors and keep all of your windows and doors closed. If you do have to go out, they say you should wear a mask over your mouth and nose.
