    An overnight crash involving semi truck turned deadly on Interstate 75 in Crisp County.According to Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock, a car suffered a blowout and came to a rest in the traffic lane of I-75 south near exit 94.While awaiting assistance from a deputy, a tractor trailer slammed into the back of the car. The driver was thrown from the vehicle and killed.It happened around 1:45 AM.The truck driver was not seriously injured.The Georgia State Patrol and the GDOT are investigating.T...More >>

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - At least 60 kids in Valdosta will get a new bike for free!

But they have to complete a safety course first.

 Valdosta Police, the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office and Leadership Lowndes will hold a bike-a-thon this weekend.

They say the number of bike accidents in the area have increased.

So they'll give away bikes on a first come first serve basis to kids. But they'll have to learn the laws before they get to ride them home.

"They'll first go through the safety lesson to learn what the laws are, then ride the bikes on a safety course," says Vern Williams of the Valdosta Police.

"It has information that shows them where they should be riding, with traffic on the right hand side of the road, how to stop and get off and look both left, right and left again," adds Sgt Jim Griffin with the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office.

The bike-a-thon begins Saturday 9:00 AM at the parking lot across from City Hall on Lee Street.
