Valdosta - The $146 billion Economic Stimulus package is headed for the Senate floor, but Congressman Jack Kingston isn't sure it will help get the economy back on track.
The bill calls for one-time tax rebates to go primarily to individuals making less than $75,000 and to married couples making less than $150,000.
But Kingston believes tax credits to small businesses is the best way to boost the economy and create jobs.
He says tax credits would allow them to invest in equipment to increase production thus creating more jobs. "I favor that far more than rebates. Rebates sound good, it puts a little money in your pocket but its like Christmas spending in December. It doesn't do anything in the long run," says Congressman Jack Kingston.
Kingston was one of the 35 representative who voted against the stimulus package.
Senate action on the bill could begin this week.
