SWAT officers to get additional pay

September 24, 2007

Albany - County employees who serve on the Albany-Dougherty metro SWAT team may get additional pay. For years, members of the SWAT team from the Sheriff's office or Dougherty County police department have served without compensation.

County leaders want to change that.

County commissioners talked Monday about bumping up the pay scales of county employees who serve on SWAT. "SWAT is high risk," said DCP Chief Don Cheek.  "You have to be highly motivated to be in that position. You also have to have training beyond just everyday training."

The Albany Police Department already bumps their officers up one step for serving on the SWAT team.
