GED recipient receives state honor

December 15, 2006

Cuthbert - - A Randolph County woman who recently received her G.E.D. is now also receiving state recognition.

Sheneka Bryant took and passed a G.E.D. course at Albany Technical College. This year, her instructors nominated her for an EAGLE Award.

It's a statewide honor recognizing outstanding achievement in adult literacy. Bryant says it's a huge honor.

"I was very surprised. At first I didn't know I was going to be nominated for it because there were a couple of other people who had been nominated to be in the program and my teacher all of a sudden, two weeks before the program said Sheneka I want you to be in the program. I said, ok I'll be in the competition and when I found out I was the winner, I was very surprised," Bryant says.

Bryant will receive an expense-paid trip to Atlanta to participate in the EAGLE Leadership Institute.

Now that she has her G.E.D., Bryant plans to attend the French Culinary Institute in New York and one day own a French bakery and cafe.
