Colquitt County tornado damages farm

January 14, 2006

Colquitt County- While Friday's tornado damage started along Perry-Batts Road the suspected tornado's path stretched much further.

The storm continued through a wooded area and struck the Gene Adams Farm. Farm owners and insurance assessors were out Saturday morning surveying the damage. The storm lifted cows out of fields and destroyed fencing. Farm owners say the damage is extensive.

"We've got an irrigation system that's upside down and twisted, the shelter with all the equipment is gone, the main loss that you can't even see here is we've got two and a half three miles from here up to Warrior Creek, where we've got huge Oak trees, Pine trees, completely wiped out," said Andrea Slocumb, Gene Adams Farm.

Those trees are estimated at hundred of thousand of dollars. Slocumb says luckily none of the equipment in the shelter was damaged and her brother in a cabin nearby wasn't hurt.
