Volunteers say holidays won't hinder search for Grinstead

November 21, 2005

Ocilla- A month has gone by, the reward is now $90,000, and still there's no sign of Tara Grinstead.

"For her mama and her family it's really getting hard, but whoever's got her they might as well bring her home because we're not going to give up," says Linda Fletcher.

Search command center coordinator Linda Fletcher says area businesses have donated thousands of flyers which volunteers plan to pass out at holiday celebrations and distribute in area hotels.

"We're saturating the state of Georgia trying to get them to every event we know of, and we're asking anybody that can to come by and get some flyers," Fletcher says.

New t-shirts with a holiday photo and buttons with turquoise ribbons, Grinstead's favorite color, have even been made.

"She was the kind of teacher that made learning fun," says a former student Brett Walker.

Walker, a senior at Irwin County High School and former student in Grinstead's history class says school just isn't the same since she's been missing.

"It seems strange not to see her in the hall everyday, walk by her classroom and she'd be out there smiling, talking to you and everything," Walker says.

Walker has made a commitment to be at area Christmas parades, passing out flyers and riding in vehicles hoping to keep attention on one of his favorite teachers during what is supposed to be a joyous holiday.

"With the excitement of the holidays the thing is this child is still missing. I promised her mother and a lot of us did that no matter what as long as we've got breath we're going to find her," Fletcher says.

Walker says there will be floats in Christmas parades in Tifton, Douglas, Fitzgerald and Ocilla during the first weekend in December.

The GBI says there are still no major developments in the case and continue to urge anyone with information to contact law enforcement.
