New firefighters are on the job

Albany-Dougherty County now has more firefighters to respond to emergencies.

Friday night 13 men graduated from training to be full time firefighters with the Albany Fire Department.

They went through 10 weeks of training, and stood in front of proud family members who pinned them with their badges.

"It's very significant in that there will be a 10 percent increase in manpower," said Eugene Anderson Training Captain.

One of the graduates was certified for Lee County.

Department leaders say the other 12 will save tax payers money by cutting down on overtime for current firefighters.
