LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The only school in a tiny Oklahoma town is in ruins, after a tornado that killed two elderly sisters and left at least 25 other people hurt.

Seven more people were killed in Arkansas by the destructive storms that swept through parts of the Midwest and South overnight.

Police say a tree fell on a Little Rock home, killing an 8-year-old boy and his mother who had climbed into bed with him as a severe storm moved through the city overnight.

The violent weather was part of a complex of storms that hit the Southern Plains and Mid-South late Thursday and early Friday.

Authorities say suspected tornadoes touched down today in the Mississippi town of Clinton, leaving extensive damage and several people hurt.
