Police say 18-year old Terrence Heflin tried to attack another student at the Horizon Academy in Lowndes County Wednesday.
When the teacher, Jeffery Criss, intervened, Heflin elbowed him in the throat.
The teacher was in ICU with injuries to his larynx.
The student is charged with battery, aggravated battery and disrupting school.
