Residents in Sylvester and Poulan will soon have access to Code Red, an alert system that will notify folks in the community of severe weather or any other disasters right away.

The fire chief in Sylvester says they were awarded a grant through which will help pay for the system for the two cities.

The system will help people who live in those areas to get important information right away, as soon as its issued so they can take the proper precautions.

The Code Red system will call your home phone or a cell phone and give weather conditions or alert of any other disasters or dangers.

"Sylvester and Poulan decided to go ahead and start first with the system, the county is going to look at the effects and results of that system in Sylvester and Poulan and hopefully move from there to make the entire county have coverage," said Jody Yarbrough, Fire Chief in Sylvester.

People interested in getting those alerts can start subscribing May 1st. Notices will be put in the local news paper and utility bills. You can also find a link on the Sylvester website. They hope to have Code Red fully operational by the end of May or first of June.
