Darton golf readies for two tournaments

Posted: Updated:

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -   The Darton College golf team is preparing for what will be a very difficult week next week.

The Cavaliers will play in the NJCAA Division I Region IV  golf tournament in Alexander City on Monday and Tuesday and then defend their state title in Jekyll Island next weekend.

The Darton golf team has moved up to Division I this year and needs to finish in the top half of the field during the district tournament in order to qualify for nationals.

The number one goal is to get to nationals but Darton wants to continue their run of state titles.

They will have to play six rounds of golf in six days to accomplish both of those goals.

Coach Dale Dover said. "We just have got to take one step at a time. We have got to play and see what we do on Monday and Tuesday. Then we will come back and worry about region after district."

Darton golfer Taylor Wellborn said. "We are starting to come around. We have been working hard the last couple of weeks. We are excited to go."

Darton has won nine straight state junior college golf titles.
