Old Pritchett Ford meets the wrecking ball

Posted: Updated:

A piece of Albany's history is coming down piece by piece along Slappey Boulevard.

Steel claws cut into the building's concrete walls at the old Pritchett Ford building on Slappey Boulevard near Dawson Road. The demolition will be a slow process as crews work to keep the dust down, deal with asbestos in the building, and recycle what they can. Neighboring businesses says the demolition is a welcome sight.

"It was overrun by homeless people and we were having to keep the doors closed and locked all the time. It's good to see it coming down," said Stanley Cox, MRS Biomed.

They're hoping a new business on that property could improve the neighborhood. Oxford Construction has said they'll level the lot and prepare the property to be sold. They wouldn't say how long the demolition might take.
