Murder investigation underway in Crisp County

GBI agents and Crisp County sheriff's investigators office returned to the scene of a murder today. A man was found dead inside a mobile home on Spring Street yesterday. Investigators are now trying to find out who he is, who killed him and why.

Myrtice Jones describes her renters as quiet people who stayed to themselves,"I thought they were alright people, they never bothered anyone," she said.

In fact, she doesn't even know what they looked like, "I would just see him crack his door and look out as I was washing dishes," she said.

But now, as she's washing dishes, she sees yellow crime scene tape and deputies standing guard.

Jones has rented out the mobile home behind her house out for several years. She says all of her renters were Hispanic so she never got to know them.

But Tuesday, she ventured over to the trailer to check out the condition after neighbors told her the renters left in the middle of the night. "They came out with a trailer behind it and they had it piled up with everything they could get on it," she said.

She couldn't get inside, so she asked a friend to go check and see if he could, and that's when he made a terrifying discovery. "He said I need to call 911, there is a man dead in the trailer," she said.

Officers and agents with the GBI arrived right away, and started gathering evidence. "We think it is pretty clear it is foul play," said Sheriff Donnie Haralson.

Sheriff Donnie Haralson says it appears the man had been dead for a few days. Now, agents are working to determine who the man is, and if he even lived in the trailer. "We've recovered some good evidence," he said.

Jones says it's a scary scene to witness, "It makes me feel like you better take caution out here," said Jones.

She hopes they make some progress soon, and take whoever killed the man off the streets.

This case will be somewhat challenging because the people who may know something, may not understand English. So the Sheriff asks if you know someone who speaks Spanish, ask them if they know anything about this incident, and the people who lived at the home.

Investigators hope to soon have autopsy results.
