Berrien County's Morgan Pearson and Chante Payne have both signed on to play their college basketball at Andrew College in Cuthbert. The high school teammates look to help out a Lady Tiger team that went 11-19 last season.
Payne averaged over 10 rebounds a game in 2010. Pearson lit it up from behind the arc. It was a day the two have been looking forward to for quite some time.
Payne said "I think it will be a great opportunity and I think I will really enjoy it."
Pearson said "It's always been a dream of mine. I've always wanted to. We struggled in high school about not being as good as we wanted to be and then really got it together our senior year and it kind of hit me that I might actually have a chance."
Andrew College also locked up another stud in Tiftarea's Shamonica Fowler. Fowler made the GISA class 3A all-region and state teams this past season.
In addition to Fowler, Tiftarea will lose one of its best baseball players in Sumner Mcwhorter to Southern Union State Community college in Alabama.
Fowler said "Now I'm not worried about college basketball to see if I'm going to get looked at by anybody because I signed with a real good school, not only in athletics but in academics."
Mcwhorter said "It's real exciting especially since its been my life time goal to be able to play collegiate baseball."
