THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Last Thursday a deputy responded to a mobile home park at 891 U.S. 84 West.

The resident, Stacy Cogland, reported that a neighbor called her and said someone was taking items from her home. "I'm sure he was trying to throw the neighbor off that if he called and told her that someone else had done it she would be looking elsewhere for, or the law enforcement would be looking elsewhere for the suspect," said Lt. Tim Watkins.

The neighbor was 41 year old Victor Jones. He was living with his girlfriend 47 year old Ruby Combs, also known as Ruby Soto. Investigators asked Jones and Soto if they knew anything about the burglary. "What they were saying wasn't consistent with what we actually found at the scene," said Watkins.

Lt. Watkins says other neighbors helped police catch the suspects. "I heard a man yelling, I came outside on my porch," said neighbor Michael Weiss.

Jones was asked to go to the sheriff's office Friday. When he did not show up, officers went to his home Saturday afternoon. "At that time he absconded from his residence and into a wooded area. It took the deputies quite a while to finally run him down and to get him into custody," said Watkins.

Ruby Soto surrendered Tuesday at the sheriff's office. Investigators recovered most of the stolen items from local pawn shops. Both suspects are charged with burglary and theft by deception. Jones is also charged with obstruction.
