Brave burglars broke into an Albany Police officers home, stole his gun and drove off in his police car.

APD Investigator Darryl Jones reported his home in Lee County was broken into around 2:30 AM Monday. The burglars snagged the keys to his 2009 unmarked police unit, a Ford Crown Vic, his Glock, and $25,000 worth of police equipment and electronics including ammunition, a bullet proof vest and a handheld police radio. Sheriff Reggie Rachals says his investigators have suspects and the missing equipment is a serious issue.

"Because they can use this equipment for their own purposes. For the wrong doing. I think it's a big problem," said Rachals.

The police car was found in a field near Cedric Street.  The gun, ammo, vest and other police gear have also been recovered.

No arrests have been made yet.
