CAMILLA, GA (WALB) -
Walmart won't close its Camilla store when a Super Center opens in east Albany.
In fact, the retail giant now plans to build a new Super Center in Camilla as well. The new Camilla store will be smaller than the East Albany Super store but will include groceries, a deli, and other features. Walmart is still considering locations and won't start construction for another year and a half. Camilla Officials say keeping the current store until then is a big help to the community.
"It's a great thing for the city in terms of quality of life for the citizens, it will generate substantial revenue in terms of sales tax for our county which we certainly as one of the four municipalities in that county benefit from," said Mike Larkin, Camilla City Manager.
Because some employees are moving to the East Albany Walmart, positions are now open in Camilla as well as Albany's new store. There's more growth in Camilla. Crews are clearing land for a new O'Reilly's Auto Parts store on Highway 19, and the city is also getting a new Harvey's grocery store.
