While many high school students on spring break are at the beach or sleeping late, one Albany youth group is spending their off time volunteering.

Wednesday the Albany First United Methodist Church youth group helped out at the Place 4 Hope homeless outreach resource center. The students power washed walls, cleaned the yards, and helped the center's clients sign up for benefits.

Monday and Tuesday they painted and cleaned at the Salvation Army center and helped feed people at the shelter.

Katie Curry said ''I want to spread God's word and show God's love to as many people as I can. And yea, it does sound fun going to the beach and hanging out with friends. But I'd much rather be doing this. I just feel like I'm called to do this."

It's not all work for the students. Thursday and Friday they will go to St. Simon's Island for a couple of days at the Epworth by the Sea Methodist Conference Center.
