ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Police are searching for 37-year old Cedric Waters Sr. after he's suspected of stabbing his wife Saturday night after an argument at Ashley Riverside Apartments on South Jackson Street.

Police say the couple started fighting in their apartment around 9:30 p.m. It continued outside near the pool. At some point, the husband, went back inside, got a knife, and stabbed his wife several times. Paramedics rushed 39-year-old Janice Waters to the hospital.

Police are searching for her husband who's 6'2"-6'3". He was last seen wearing a purple shirt, blue jean shorts, and purple shoes. Detectives with the Family Protection Unit were on scene and with the wife after the incident.

Kahari Glover has lived at Ashley Riverside Apartments for six years. He heard cop cars and ambulances rush by. He's never heard of any crime at the gated community.

"I feel like it's pretty safe," said Glover. "We rarely have anything dramatic happen here."

Cedric Waters, who had prior charges in 2004 for simple battery and parole violation is still on the lose.

Georgia is ranked 10th in the nation when it comes to men abusing women according to The Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence. In 2010 the crisis line answered more than 72,000 calls and helped more than 42,000 sexual assault and rape victims.

We don't know Mrs. Water's condition right now. Liberty House Director, Silke Deeley, says law makers are talking about cutting state funding for domestic violence shelters. She says that would be a bad idea because the program is always in need of funding.

Police aren't saying where or how many times Janice Waters was stabbed. If you have any information on Cedric Waters' whereabouts call CrimeStoppers at (229)-436-TIPS.
