ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Changes to Dougherty County's health insurance plan made last year are saving taxpayers money.
Nationally, the trend is that health care expenses for businesses go up every year. But Dougherty County's cost dropped by $750,000.
The county increased premiums for employees and a dependent eligibility audit removed a lot of people who should not have been enrolled in the plan. Some plan design changes should also continue to save the county money.
Spencer Allen said, "We're hopeful those two program are going to continue to reduce spend and lower the cost for Dougherty County."
The county also is working with a vendor to help manage chronic health conditions and make sure employees are adequately addressing those problems.
