ALBANY, GA (WALB) - "3 strikes and you're out!", it's a phrase generally reserved for baseball but it also explains Albany Panthers quarterback A.J McKenna's night against the Speed last Friday. The former ASU Ram started but played only 3 downs the entire night.
Head coach Lucious Davis says he had planned on playing both McKenna and the veteran Cecil Lester but after McKenna made a few wrong reads out of the gate he got the hook. Davis says the SIFL rookie just wasn't there mentally.
Davis said "There were some things that happened before the game that resulted in that. I feel mentally he wasn't ready, we all know he has the tools. I have confidence in him, I know he can play but last night (Friday) I just saw some things during pre game and felt like he wasn't ready"
Davis says he'll make a decision about the team's permanent starter later on this week. The Panthers will host Columbus this Saturday night at the Albany Civic Center
