ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A group of volunteers is trying to clean up the flint river post on Radium Springs Road.

They say county officials threatened to close public access to the park because they can't afford to continue to clean up the trash people leave behind.

People with Greener Globe volunteer organization spent the afternoon canvassing the park, picking up beer bottles, cigarette butts and other trash they could find.

"We don't want the public access to be cut off because it's one of our favorite places to come," said Greener Globe Volunteer, Alison McCorkle. "The boat landing, the swimming hole, the camping, kayak and canoe rentals are perfect. We're just trying to keep it open.

The group plans to come out here every weekend throughout the summer months when there is more traffic and trash. They ask other visitors to clean up their mess, so everyone can enjoy the park.
