South Georgia highways open again

Posted: Updated:

The Georgia DOT along with local law enforcement have reopened all state routes in South Georgia that were closed due to low visibility from smoke in the area.

The Georgia DOT is requesting for motorists to turn their headlights on so the other driver can see you. Fires in Long, Coffee, and Clinch counties could still cause visibility problems due to low lying smoke.

Motorists should exercise extreme caution. Drivers should be prepared for possible delays, unscheduled road closures and detours. Georgia DOT urges travelers to call 511 for updated information about this fire.
