ALBANY, GA (WALB) -  Over 100 BMX riders took to the track on Saturday at Cheehaw Park in hopes of representing the state of Georgia later on this year.  It was the 1st of 5 state qualifiers in advance of the President's cup to be held in Columbus, Ohio this December.

The riders covered all age groups. Georgia placed 3rd out of 30 teams in last year's President's cup and won $1,300. Saturday's event was a chance for the each rider to separate him or herself from the rest of the pack.

Georgia BMX Commissioner Shayne Robinson said "It's very important for the community because it brings riders from out of this area.  I came from Peach City, Georgia. We've got riders from Cummings, Forsyth County, they come from all over Georgia. We've got riders from Alabama who come to compete so it's a great opportunity to visit your county, visit your home. They populate all the restaurants here, it's a great boost for the economy."
