South Georgia wildfires affect drivers on the highway

COFFEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

The Georgia Department of Transportation  is warning drivers about poor road visibility in low-lying areas because of South Georgia wildfires.

If you are driving in the affected areas, use extra caution and drive slowly with your headlights on.

The affected areas are Appling, Atkinson, Coffee, Clinch, Echols, Glynn, Lanier, Long, Lowndes McIntosh, Ware and Wayne counties

GDOT reports that in Long county, U.S. 84/S. R. 38 is closed between Ludowici and Walthourville. 

In that same county S. R. 57 reopened between Ludowici and Townsend. However in Coffee County, U.S. 441/S. R. 31 reopened between the S. R. 206 Conn. and the Broxton – West Green Rd.

And over in Atkinson/Clinch counties U.S. 84/S.R. 38 reopened between S.R. 221 and the Homerville Airport.

Road closures in Atkinson/Clinch counties are U.S. 441/S.R. 89 between S.R. 221 in Atkinson County and the U.S. 84/S.R. 38.

Also in Clinch County S.R. 122  is closed between S. R. 168 and Ware.
