THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - 20 year old Daniel McGee was no stranger to Thomasville law enforcers. "He's been arrested 15 times by local law enforcement agencies starting in 2006," said Lt. Tim Watkins.
Police say McGee was burglarizing a Lake View home Wednesday when they arrived on the scene. McGee ran into the woods behind Wildwood Apartments and Cherokee Lake. That's where he apparently shot himself. Investigators suspect that Daniel McGee was trying to run back to his home in Lake Eagle.
Local law enforcement already had McGee on their radar. "Mr. McGee was currently out on bond from last month, his latest arrest. There was an active probation warrant for his arrest and the deputies have been looking for him," said Lt. Watkins.
McGee has been arrested for burglary, grand theft auto, and drug possession. Investigators say that's not all. "He also has an arson, a first degree arson charge."
Lt. Watkins says they have not yet officially classified the death as a suicide. "We're waiting on autopsy results to come back from the GBI crime lab and at that time the case will probably be resolved."
Watkins says they found a gun lying next to McGee's body. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is now in charge of the case.
