LEESBURG, GA (WALB) - A Lee County woman is in jail, charged with DUI and hit and run for hitting a bicyclist in Lee County Tuesday night.

The bicyclist she hit has a broken leg and back injuries, but is in good condition at an Albany hospital.

25 year old Mia Giovingo Register is charged with hit and run, and DUI among many other traffic charges.

Lee County Sheriff's Investigators say she was driving the car and hit Jeffrey Haire as he rode his bicycle along Old Leesburg Road.

Investigators say Register, who had passengers including her 7-year-old son, kept going even though part of the bike was lodged underneath her car.

Her boyfriend, a passenger in the car, told the sheriff he tried to get her to stop but she wouldn't, so he called and turned her in.

"He was doing a great thing and he was doing the right thing by comIng forward, even though it was his girlfriend, turning the information over. Because he said he was not going to be able to sleep if he went home," said Lee County Sheriff Reggie Rachals.

Register is being held at the Lee County jail.
