ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Walt Disney's movie magic is coming to Dougherty and Terrell Counties.
Scenes for the new movie "The Odd Life of Timothy Green" will be filmed in Albany and Dawson over the next 30 days.
Film and Digital Entertainment has become a big business in Georgia. Last year, 335 film and TV productions were shot in the Peach State, generating $759 million.
Terrell County's courthouse will soon be transformed into Stanleyville, the setting for "The Odd Life of Timothy Green," the Disney movie currently filming on locations around Georgia. Across the street at Terrell Insurance Agency they suspected something was up.
"In the last couple of weeks we saw at one time several different men just going around all over town taking pictures of the courthouse different pictures here and there," said Laura Wiley.
Terrell County's Chamber of Commerce got word Disney will spend two days filming in downtown and around the courthouse. Those downtown are excited.
"We got a first row seat, where we can watch out our window and see everything going on," said Wiley.
Just recently they were designated a camera ready community like Albany giving them a link to film producers. In Albany it's the tree lined streets they're after. CVB officials say the state incentives also bring Hollywood here.
"The state is offering these wonderful tax incentives for companies to come to Georgia and produce their films," said Lisa Riddle, Albany-Dougherty Convention and Visitor's Bureau Director.
It's big business. Sherwood's latest film Courageous due out this fall and filmed around Dougherty County last year is part of the 1.4 billion dollar entertainment industry impact. Businesses here also win.
"They're spending dollars by booking several hotel rooms, for many nights and hiring companies to do some of the set up or the road work or road closures or bathrooms," said Riddle.
While crews are in town just a short period of time, many businesses benefit. It adds up and opens the door for future production efforts in south Georgia.
In fact, the camera ready designation landed Terrell County a phone call Monday from a company other than Disney looking for a specific site. Here in Albany Lisa Riddle says they get calls for specific sites, like an old school, or a specific type of house, or in this case a specific type of tree line.
The movie has also shot scenes in metro Atlanta. The movie stars Jennifer Garner, Joel Edgerton, and C. J. Adams but not all of the stars will film here in south Georgia.
