ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany Panthers' quarterback Cecil Lester got the start in the second half as the Panthers put together a huge comeback to beat Louisiana 30-27. Former Albany State Ram A.J McKenna was pulled at halftime after Albany trailed 27-7 but head coach Lucius Davis says he had previously planned to pull A.J at halftime regardless of how he played.
He says he wanted to take a look at both quarterbacks during the game, putting any word of a qb controversy to bed. Lester went 10-18, 83 yds and 3 tds. McKenna 13-22, 111 yards 1TD and 1 interception.
Davis said "It wasn't that he was playing bad or nothing like that, nothing like that at all. I thought A.J played good. I think he had 5 or 6 dropped passes. You catch those passes and now everybody is saying how good of a game he had."
The Panthers play the Carolina speed this weekend. Davis says he'll make a decision on a starter later on in the week.
