Several rush hour wrecks hold up traffic

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Evening rush hour was a mess on the Liberty Expressway. Several wrecks brought traffic to a standstill between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m.

Jamar Bonnea was trying to avoid traffic from the first crash in the north-bound lane on the Flint River Bridge near the Jefferson Street exit.

He turned around in the median to head south and pulled his Buick in front of a Toyota Camry driven by Quandrel Sims.

As traffic slowed due to that wreck, two other cars collided across the median in the northbound lanes.

No one was seriously injured, but traffic was backed up in both directions as far as the eye could see.

Around the same time, in Lee County, Roy Heugatter was driving his truck north on Philema road when a Suburban crossed the yellow line and come right at him.

He swerved out of the way. The SUV hit an embankment, went airborne, and ended up tangled in some woods.

Troopers think the driver, 53-year-old Steven Holloway, may have fallen asleep at the wheel. He's expected to be okay.
