ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany Panthers wasted no time in brining drama to its 2011 season. The team pulled off what seemed like a magic trick shutting out the Louisiana Swashbucklers in the 2nd half to notch its first win of the season 30-27. The Panther's offense struggled in the first half after A.J Mckenna hooked up with Antwone Savage for a touchdown on Albany's first drive of the season.
Things then took a turn for the worse as the defense missed several tackles and gave up 21 first half points. Louisiana's other score came from a recovered fumble after McKenna coughed up the ball in his own end zone.
The second half yielded a surge in the Panther offense and the team moved to 1-0 on the boot of Wes Virgilio as time expired. Albany will head on the road next week against the Carolina Speed.
