ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Several southwest Georgia employers are honored for their commitment to the National guard and Reserves.

David Minnick is the Fleet Manager at Dougherty County Public Works. He's also a National Guardsman who served in Bosnia, Iraq, and most recently Northern Afghanistan.

He nominated Public Works for the Secretary of Defense Support Freedom Award. While he was overseas, co-workers sent him care packages, letters and e-mails.

"I nominated the public works department because they supported me in all the missions I have done," said Feet Maintenance Manager, David Minnick.

Other nominees include, the Dougherty County Health Department, ConAgra Foods in Sylvester, Tift County Board of Commissioners, Bainbridge Probation Substance Abuse Center, Fitzgerald High School, the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office, the Homes and Land of Valdosta and Surrounding Areas, and the Quitman Fire Department.

Winners will be announced this summer.
