Deposit bags discovered in street, investigation underway

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Dougherty County Tax office is investigating a security courier service after a driver found deposit bags from the office in the middle of a road.

It could have put taxpayers financial information at risk. Four locked bags containing deposit tickets were discovered on Oglethorpe Boulevard last Wednesday near the Bank of America.

The man who found them dropped them off at the Bank of America branch at Dawson and Slappey. In the wrong hands, personal information could have been in jeopardy.

"It could be a bad thing if cash was in there," said Dougherty County Tax Director, Denver Hooten. "It's of great concern to us."

The county clerk met with a representative from Brinks Security - the courier service responsible for delivering the bags to the bank.
