ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Fire investigators are closer to ruling arson as the cause of a fire that destroyed a vacant east Albany restaurant.

They have to rule out all other factors first. Firefighters spent Monday going through the rubble of the old Shoney's building on East Ogelthorpe Boulevard and tossing out debris as they looked for clues.

They think the fire started in the back of the building.

"At this point, we've done about half of the building," said Battalion Chief, Kelly Harcrow. "It's about 44,000 square feet. We're having to deal with the contents inside including the roof, and ceiling."

The building has been vacant for years. The fire broke out Friday afternoon.
