Tucson, AZ -

TUCSON, AZ (RNN) - It was a chilly day in Tucson, AZ, on Jan. 8, the day that Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-AZ, held a constituent meet-and-greet at a local Safeway grocery store - and not just because of the weather.

U.S. District Judge John McCarthy Roll came to the event dressed in a black leather jacket. Phyllis Caroline Schneck was dressed in a red flannel shirt and blue fleece jacket. Dorwan Clifford Stoddard was clad in a blue denim jacket. And Gabe Matthew Zimmerman, an aide of Giffords, chose a brown blazer.

But none was prepared for the true cold that was to come, when Jared Lee Loughner, 22, is alleged to have opened fire on Giffords' "Congress at Your Corner" crowd, injuring the congresswoman and 18 others, killing six of them.

These are some of the vivid details offered up by the autopsies of the deceased, which were released Monday by the Pima County Sheriff's office.

Outfitted with yellow metal earrings with blue stones, Christina Taylor Green, the 9-year-old budding politician, went to meet one of her idols, Congresswoman Giffords, at the event.

According to her autopsy, Green was killed by a gunshot wound to the torso, which perforated her aorta and right kidney. She was the only shooting victim not declared dead at the scene.

Green was taken by ambulance to University Medical Center with Giffords, but unlike the Congresswoman, Green was not fortunate enough to have made it out of the operating room alive.

Of the five who died at the scene, two were killed by bullet wounds to the heart. Roll, 63, was killed when a gunshot entered his body through his lower left back and pierced his aorta.

Dorothy Jean Morris, 76, was hit by two bullets - one through her back and a second through her heart and right lung.

The autopsies revealed that three of the six - Schneck, 79; Stoddard, 76; and Zimmerman, 30 - were killed by gunshot wounds to the head.

On Friday, a federal grand jury returned a 49-count indictment against Loughner.

According to a March 7 report from the Associated Press, prosecutors have asked a judge to have the accused evaluated by psychologists. The lawyers feel Loughner, who has pleaded not guilty, may not be mentally sound enough to stand trial.
