Cancer patients learn to Look Good, Feel Better

ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Many cancer patients not only fight the disease but also low self-esteem.   Chemotherapy and radiation treatments can wreak havoc on your body.

Breast cancer patient Cheryol Ford lost her hair.  The 32-year old mother took a class through Phoebe Putney called Look Good Feel Better.

Cosmetic companies donate items such as make-up and lotion and participants learn how to apply them properly.     Ford learned how to draw on thicker eyebrows, and when her hair started to  fall out, she cut it off and started wearing a wig.

Having a better self-image helped Ford have a better outlook on her disease.

She said, "When I got my biopsy results, I broke down.  I thought I was too young to have breast cancer.  I didn't have breast cancer in my family or anything, so it took me for a loop then, but then I started coming to the classes and I've reached out to a lot of people and I'm constantly speaking about breast cancer to other people, motivating them and letting them know it's going to be okay, look at me."

Feel Good Look Better classes are held once a month for about ten people.

To sign up, call Phyllis Colvin at 229-312-2264.
