ALBANY,  GA (WALB) –Throughout the month of October, South Georgia Banking company is accepting shoe donations at all eight of their locations.

All donations will benefit elementary schools and different charities in Tift, Colquitt, Turner and Crisp counties. The idea of helping came from a marketing campaign and just witnessing the need in the community.

The Turner County Bank President Brinson Brock said, "We're concerned about the whole person not just the financial side."

South Georgia Bank is involved in more than just deposits and withdrawals. "We're interested in the total person not just his financial needs, and their fiscal well-being as well," said Brock.

They're responding to the needs of the community which just happen to be shoes. "In response to a need in the community, people in the community are responding to us. It's really just been overwhelming," said Brock.

At the turner county branch they've received donations of more than 100 pairs of shoes. "We all need to slow down and realize the people in need around us. I'm so grateful that I work with an organization that cares," said Brock.

South Georgia Bank actually got the idea from their "Partners in Walk of Life" campaign. Prior to the shoe drive, we were contacted by counselors and principals of the need for shoes in the community," said Credit Analyst Melba Brown.

But, why should banks be getting involved? "We want to promote that our bank is good and  capable of serving every aspect of a person's life," said Brock.

"If a child comes to school without a coat or proper shoes to wear, learning is not at the top of their list," said Lisa Kingry. Please don't donate anything you wouldn't wear yourself.

"We're accepting shoes that are new or gently used. We're accepting all sizes from kids to adults," said Brown.  South Georgia Bank is putting their best foot forward.
