ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The Census deadline is almost here.

The Census Bureau wants you to mail back your form by April 1st so workers won't have to come knocking on your door.

But so far, only about a third of south Georgians have put their forms in the mail.

"I filled it out and mailed it back in, it was simple, basic, and I was done in ten minutes," said Nancy Jones.

Jones has already mailed in her census form, it's required by law that you fill out and return the forms.

"I laid it on my table because I haven't been off in a while," said Felicia McFadden, Albany Resident.

She's not alone close to 70 percent of Dougherty County have yet to receive or complete their forms.

"I check all my mail at one time, I'll check it tonight when I get home," said McFadden.

You can keep up with how you community is doing.

The U.S. Census Bureau has teamed up with Google to offer an interactive map. It shows the percentage of people in your city who have already participated.

"I think it's a good thing, that way if there's been population shifts over the last then years then money can be allocated to those specific needs and those specific areas," said Gerry Whearry, Completed Census Form.

He encourages everyone else in his community to do the same so they can receive their fair share of funding.

"I live in Albany, Northwest Albany and we need some better roads over there, and I know that sort of stuff is also allocated according to need," said Whearry.

In Terrell County 32 percent of people have participated so far, 36 in Lee county, 33 in Dougherty, and 35 in Worth County.

"Age, and sex and race, that was basically it," said Whearry.

The ten simple questions you mail back in this years census could make a difference in how your community moves forward.
